This week Cooper & I went on a discovery adventure to somewhere we’ve never visited before, Stanway House & Fountain. Situated near to Cheltenham (about a 25 minute drive) Stanway is an outstandingly beautiful example of a Jacobean Manor House built in a Cotswold stone know as Guiting Yellow. When you first walk in you cannot help but notice the grand scale of the entrance and just what a stunning building it is.
There is a lovely variety of Garden at Stanway with a lovely walled garden surrounded by beautiful grounds which display the Watergarden magnificently. It was created in the 1720s for John Tracy and entails the canal, which is situated on a terrace 25 feet above the house, and the Cascade (the largest in Britain, partially restored), fed by water flowing under the Pyramid from the Pyramid Pond.
There is also the Tithe Barn Pond which you see upon arrival which adds to the watery feel of the garden. This also includes fine specimen trees, broad terraced lawns and herbaceous borders.
However the main attraction of Stanway House is the watergarden Canal which has a single-jet fountain which rises amazingly to over 300 feet, making it the tallest fountain in Britain, the tallest gravity fountain in the world and the second tallest fountain in Europe.
One word of warning, be careful where you stand when it’s switched on as any change in wind can suddenly result in getting a tad wet. As you can see from the above photo the water vapour can really travel!
Cooper was also not to sure about it as he’s a bit of a scaredy cat sometimes and wasn’t keen to go anywhere near it. So trying to get a photo of him In front of it proved impossible unless you can count the picture below which was the best I managed despite plying him with many treats!
If you are thinking of going for a visit with your pooch make sure you get there soon as they are only open until the end of August and also only open on Tuesday & Thursdays 2.00pm – 5.00pm

P.S. Watch out for the Swans as they have Cygnets at the moment so didn’t appreciate me getting too close with Cooper and the Camera.
