This week despite the rain we managed to visit Cerney House Gardens which is described as a romantic, secret place in the Cotswolds, near to Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Upon arrival there is a little hut with an honesty box in for your admission fee which is very charming as not having anyone to great you all adds to the feeling you’re entering a secret garden.
It’s all Set around a Victorian walled garden where you can explore the working organic kitchen garden amongst the overflowing herbaceous borders. There is also a woodland walk you can have a meander through and it’s all set within 40 acres of Cotswold Parkland.
Throughout the wood and garden you will notice there are also ornaments/statues scattered around which if you’re also visiting with Children are fun to try and find. Cooper being the scardey cat he is will always approach these with much trepidation which always results in much amusement from any passers by.
If you’re feeling in need of a refreshment during your visit there is a little cafe situated in the Walled Garden with Teas, coffees, homemade cakes etc.. which again is all done via a honesty box. You will also find a little gift shop in there too with some cute handmade bits and bobs.
I’ve visited the garden before without Cooper during other periods of the year and there’s always a different feel to the garden with Snowdrops giving way to daffodils and carpets of bluebells follow early Spring flowers. The Summer is a tapestry of shape and colour that changes with the parkland trees to the rich colours of Autumn.
South Cerney Garden is definitely worth a visit with your pooch if you’re looking for somewhere to visit that has plenty of atmosphere and old character charm.
Let us know what you think if you go and visit.
